BestGoodFairPoorClosedCrowds (quiet → packed)April and June–August are best for long daylight, easier driving, and pairing the soak with Reykjanes sightseeing. · Also: September–March: dark skies, steam-and-lava atmosphere, and possible aurora conditions; December–March offers the strongest snow-and-steam contrast.
Time
Late-afternoon or evening arrival, ideally 18:00–20:00 when seasonal closing hours permit; the light is atmospheric and crowds ease after the midday airport and tour peak. · In winter, choose an earlier daytime slot if seeing the surrounding lava landscape matters; evening brings darkness but better atmosphere and possible aurora conditions.
Avoid
Do not go during severe wind, unsafe road conditions, or volcanic/civil-protection closures around Svartsengi; check conditions immediately before departure.

Booking
Yes—entry is by timed-arrival reservation and Blue Lagoon says advance booking is essential, with bookings generally full year-round. Book the lagoon admission directly before arranging transport, ideally at least two weeks ahead. Select an arrival time you can meet; there is a one-hour grace window, but later entry is not guaranteed. If your preferred slot is sold out, first try a late-evening slot or another date, then look for a reputable transfer-and-entry package that explicitly includes your desired admission tier. Do not drive over expecting walk-up entry.
Age limits
Children under 2 may not enter the water, although an adult may remain with them elsewhere in the facility. Children aged 2–11 cost ISK 2,000. Retreat Spa guests must be at least 12 years old. Staff may request proof of age for young children.
